This Bury the Violence Campaign is not simply a plea for support or campaign to evoke emotions. In fact, it is much more than that. The Bury the Violence Campaign is a movement…birthed out of the heart of community leaders who understand the problems of violence in our schools, violence in our homes and violence in our streets. And most importantly, these community leaders have a solution. My name is Jerome Rhyant, and I am the Founder and Executive Director of the Love Center in Fort Pierce. I am one of those leaders. When I saw the opportunity to present this Bury the Violence Campaign in the tri-county (Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River Counties), I jumped at the chance to make a difference, and presently, I’m seeking a serious commitment from church leaders, businesses and civic organizations who will make difference in combating the violence in our communities, while simultaneously engaging the local citizens .
This is a prevention as well as interventional tool. I'm scheduled over the next couple of weeks, to speak in a few public schools, not only to kids, but to adults in a few PTA meetings. One of my goals is let the adults know, throughout this community, that they are responsible and will be held accountable, for their part in what has been created ...known as community gangs. Hollywood has its part to play...and parental-neglect has its part to play. And what we see, is the bi-product of both ills at work. That Bi-product is a gang.
I want to encourage YOU to explore this blog site and see how you can help make a difference by supporting us and joining us in this unique and effective means of response to gang violence. We are making a difference! You can be part of this community changing work!
